CleanDNS Season Recap: Spring 2024

Season Recap: Spring 2024

Welcome to the CleanDNS Season Recap for Spring 2024! It has been a whirlwind six months for the CleanDNS team, full of industry conferences, platform updates, and conversations surrounding the newly launched DNS Abuse Amendments. Read through our Season Recap for insight into how our team has spent the Spring 2024 season, and a look into the pipeline for next season.

All Eyes on Evidence

CleanDNS has an evidence-based approach to abuse mitigation, meaning we highly encourage reports to be submitted with evidence such as screenshots of abuse, malware samples, emails, third-party verification sites, and code. Immediately capturing evidence of abuse is vital for swift mitigation. CleanDNS was able to validate and evidence for mitigation 74% of escalated abuse reports. Based on the likelihood of compromise or registration for abusive purposes, CleanDNS determines the appropriate action or escalation path for each reported domain.

Phishy Business

Out of the wide range of abuse reports we receive, the most frequent type is phishing. This season’s most frequently targeted industries for phishing were Financial Institutions, Technology Companies, and Retail Companies. Financial Institution phishes remained the most frequent, with Technology Company phishes surpassing Retail Company phishes in late-spring.

Roadmarkers + Road Ahead

This Spring has been a busy one, with exciting updates taking place and new clients joining us in #DISRUPTION along the way. From our ICANN79 Birthday Party  (and registered art piece), our SOC 2 Type II Compliance, responsive UI platform updates, the launch of the DNS Abuse Amendments, to surpassing 600+ TLDs protected, our pipeline of efforts continues to grow by the day. For a look at one of our recent engagements, check out our Event Snapshot from CENTR Tech Jamboree, where the CleanDNS team discussed online harm best practices and framework for tackling online abuse within ccTLDs.

There’s a busy summer ahead of us, with the ICANN80 Policy Forum already concluded, we look forward to the other upcoming industry engagements our team will be attending, including APTLD86 in Da Nang, Vietnam, the APAC DNS Forum in Bali, Indonesia, and more.
